A woman's wish for freedom.
Ring

This diamond’s lost its luster
As six prongs force it to be
Atop the dirt and misery
Of years lost in Life’s fluster.

My reflection stretched thin:
A disappointed face
With lines to take the place
Of where my dreams had been.

Like a woman trapped behind
Yellow wallpaper°, I see
This xanthic° ring confine me.
Like Her I lose my mind.

Indention in my skin.
Worn so long I can’t be freed;
Knuckle bloodied with the need
To sleep with other men.

"The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. A short story about a woman with Postpartum Depression. A must read.
Xanthic- “having a yellowish color”
