A poem I wrote while awaiting a coloscopy!!
HOSPITAL

Here I sit in my hospital gown
Watching the nurses hurry up and down
Carrying this and that and more
Up the stairs and through the door

Files and charts hugged to their chest
Doctors coming – must look their best
Doors constantly opening in a steady stream
With nurses and porters working as a team

Injections given by the side of the bed
Monitors bleep rhythmically overhead
X rays lit by boxes of light
Patients learning the extent of their plight

Canteen trolley gliding over the floor
Along corridors, through door after door
Offering selections of sour and sweet
Squeaking and creaking from nurse’s feet

An assortment of patients sat row after row
Operations taking place on the floor below
Relatives crying-a loved one is dead
Nurses like robots, change a vacant bed

Workers nearing the end of their shift
Staggering, exhausted to the nearest lift
After keeping all patients antics at bay
And so ends another very long day
