thought from being homeless
" Homeless In My Island "

Spring sings through the trees,
  this early Spring morn'.
Three months in a cold van,
  barely finding my way.

It brought me closer to God,
and I grew strong through trials.
Learned patience, fortitude,
  and meditated quite a while.

My island on wheels, rescued me,
like so many during the Depression.
All their belongings packed inside,
wandering to any hope or direction.

I'm lucky I guess, because I have wheels,
though gas is quite an expense.
So I parked a lot and slept,
thank God there was no rent.

But it's Spring now and warmth,
  time to make new plans.
I still have my health and sight,
and was always good with my hands.

The wind sighs through the trees,
  and whispers in my ear.
I'll remember this day, this winter,
  the rest of my years.
