the woodlands around us are being cut down. this is how i felt.
On my daily peaceful walks
to that one haven by my house
where the trees still stand tall
and wild animals have a small piece of land to call home,
where a creek has long since dried up,
and one lonely house stands calling for others to pioneer
it is in this place i noticed a tree
bent and shredded into two
not by a strong gale during a storm
not from rotting
but bent by the will of man
who declared it was its turn to die
then i looked around me
and noticed the tire treads of human's metal beasts
clambering through the land scape
claiming its space
i began to think
about all the trees that would be fallen in the next few years
how all this space would look no different from my neighborhood
then i felt my heart start to shudder
back and forth it rocked
with sadness and tears
then i thought if mankind really knew the word "preserve"
and how good we were at destroying
i thought about all the animals that were out here
sharing this small parcel of land as humans never could
,at least the humans of today,
how all the animals shared this small sacred space
one of the last places they could be safe
an area where generations may have grown
living without humans
once this was swept from the earth
they would be forced to adapt to the new human habitat
and if they could not adapt then, too bad, they perish.
this all made my heart jerk with both sadness and anger
what right do we humans have to destroy all this?
surely we should give some animals a small sanctuary
just becuase we can stand on two legs, you must call us master
and for those others who may use two legs we are leagues ahead of you mentally
bow and call us king
you shall sacrifice your very life for me
I can drive a car, but i do not know how to make one
i can work a smoothie machine, yet i can not make one
so what can i do?
put me in the woods and surely i would be the one to perish in your enviroment
so we must make new areas for me to live
to make this area "habitable" for the kings of all animals
so shall you lay down your lives without us even acknowledging your sacrifice
perhaps mankind does preserve to a point
but here we regret to inform you
your numbers are not too low, you are not that rare
so these laws of protection shall not cover your measley life
nor will they protect you until we realize how many of you have truly gone into the next world
then we shall frantically pass laws in attempt for reperation
but until that day
your kind will have no choice
and we shall chase you into the world beyond
