A poem inspired by AA Milne and his glorious children's poetry.
I heard a heffalump when I was reading Pooh,
I was reading on the landing as I almost always do.
Bear isn't really Pooh I've told him that before,
but we both heard the heffalump come knocking at my door.

"I heard him stomp!" said I to bear, "I too!" said bear to me.
"Oh dear said Pig and closed his eyes "It really frightened me!".
Pig's not really Piglet though his father was a boar,
but we all heard the heffalump come knocking at my door.

We peered through the banisters and nanny bustled in,
"If nanny fights the heffalump, who do you think will win?".
Donkey isn't Eeyore but he's similar I'm sure,
and we all heard the heffalump come knocking at my door.

Nanny took the chain off and we tried to catch a peek
of heffalump who stomped again and made poor Piggy squeak.
The snow it kept on snowing and we huddled close we four,
as we waited for the heffalump to enter through my door.

Then two big hands hugged nanny tight and all at once we saw
it was Daddy who'd been stomping all this time outside my door!
Daddy's not a heffalump but when he says goodnight
he checks my bedroom just incase one's hiding out of sight!
