My Grandma is responsible for my love of poetry, this one's for her.
When Grandma and Grandad come to stay
it’s common for me to be out all day,
or there’s someone round,
or revision to do,
or a best friend’s party I ought to go to…
And it’s bad-
‘cos they’re not often over you see-
and the minutes we have are important to me.
But no matter how little the time that we spend,
I always feel sad when it comes to an end,
because when they are here I can wake up and know,
that there in the kitchen when downstairs I go,
to collect all the items I cast on the floor
late the previous night when I fell through the door,
I can reach down and smile at how lovely it feels,
to see two sets of slippers
by my pair of high heels.
