Bits of what I try to pass off as poetry.
The Ceremony

Music surrounds the gathered
Serenity fills the moments
Between hearts’ beats

Father walks me
Down the lengthy
Candlelit aisle

I wear white and flowers
And He waits for my arrival
Sacerdotal ceremonies proceed

Emotions surge and he
Leans to kiss me
I wait with closed eyes

A day like no other
The procession follows
Close behind

Tears make trails
Down His and father’s faces
As I am laid to rest

The Shoes

silently they rest, accepting their fates
in a closet black
darkness engulfs them
surrounds and permeates
inescapable
outsoles worn, laces frayed
vamps torn, used, and wrinkled
insoles mashed to insignificance
discomfort reigns
dust half-covers their barren forms
petrified mud on the heels
lost to time, weathered and beaten
little remains of those once-perfect cuts
of ancient leather
gone are the days they fit
perfect and snug on delicate feet
now they lay, at peace
naught but a passing thought in memory
silently they rest, accepting their fates
in a closet black
