Iraq, 07-08.
It's the silence after the first echoing boom
It makes you apathetic in the middle of the night
It drives you to hate when you know you can't protect
You can only strike back in a nicer way with only a light

When someone dies, it's like a tidal wave in our minds
First you see it far off and know what it is that creeps
Then it comes closer and dawns in your eyes
You feel the loss now, and what war reaps

Three days is all it can take to be okay
But you remember...you always do in this aftermath
After this tidal wave has dawned, some memories are replaced with pain
Sadness, Revenge, and a sense of responsibility are now spread along your path

Letting go helps, but any true soldier never forgets
Remembering is being a servant to truth and honor
No matter how many days we have moved through
Our memories and loyalty will carry the lost forever
