Small Flower

Between the buildings
of a soulless street,
her voice, bereft of song,
gropes along the walls,
where the heartless hollow
of her step diminishes
against the concrete walk,
barren as the truth
she would not tell,
her love a small,
bitter flower in the
detritus of her life.
