A response to a response from Karen. Written during the ordeal with my runaway daughter.
Fatherhood Endured

Am I dreaming?

My soul touched,
hears sound.

The stream is the mind---
Flowing

Blood pumping endlessly
like lungs overworked,

I feel the flowing
departure

Father meets the
grown-overnight
daughter

wishing time
could be reversed

Spec on river
part

of a fallen leaf,
green.

Moves downstream---
down the stream,
down the stream.

dash, comma, period
on purpose . . .
ellipse

it's all
an ellipse

Downstream . . .

whether we
are ready
or not.

Author's Note
I normally write when poems come to me during the journaling process. This is a result of a new process, introduced to me by karenmcrump, that I am calling "Responsive Poetry." It was written during a family ordeal that has exposed a multitude of emotions that I was not aware existed in my soul.

It is a response to her response to my poem: "Way Muse In. Because her response was not posted on writing.com, I have copied her response below:

Reunited

Shhh! Listen! Am I Dreaming?
Sensual sounds touch my soul.
In my mind, thoughts are streaming.
Could it be the river's flow?

Standing here, heart aquiver;
I can hardly catch my breath.
I am close to the river;
can't remember why I left.

Nervous, like lovers meeting
after painful words were said.
What will be river's greeting?
Will it welcome me again?

River's ripples beckon me,
"Come and slip into the flow.
This is where you need to be
We have many miles to go."
