Am I to show my defects to the world?
Take me as I am.

Am I to show my defects to the world,
my digressions for everyone to see?
A faded flower, petals all unfurled,
and love that never wants to be set free.

In one small corner of my restless mind
hidden beneath the sediment of years
indignant thoughts attempt to hide behind
a wall of bricks and mortar mixed with tears.

What must I do to prove this heart is true?
I was not made for coddling. I am strong.
Let it suffice that I’m still here with you
and in your arms, the place where I belong.

Don’t ask for what I’m unable to give,
just take me as I am.  Life’s short, let’s live.
