Sometimes life can be unfair, as a young soldier finds out
“Your wife died while you were gone, I’m so sorry”
Tears formed in the soldier’s eyes as grief struck him like an enemy’s bullet. He felt his mates console him by his side but he took no notice of what they said.
Eight months in Afghanistan, eight months fighting for freedom and then this.
“We tried everything we could to revive her, again I’m sorry”
Everything was a blur. Voices talking, people moving, paper shuffling. And one dreaded thought came into his mind. She was going to have a baby… I could have been a Dad… His knees buckled in on him and he fell to the floor, weeping miserably. All he wanted to do was sink into the ground. Suddenly he heard a loud, shrieking cry and felt something soft in his arms. He looked down and saw a beautiful, blond haired newborn.
“She has your eyes…”
