We place our faith by its juxtaposition.
The look in Father Beiting's eyes was darkly penetrating. The priest's voice
echoed down the hall, "The Devil comes in many forms. He will immitate
you and lead you to Hell." It was the look that was more threatening, than the
words. Molly had seen those eyes before in many people. All the men who'd
ever said they'd loved her. All the others who'd used her. Dead eyes, full of empty
promisses. Her friends had ask her to speak to a priest. She felt hypocritical,
never attending a Mass or confession.
Molly wanted to marry and have children, but the child had come first.
If only she could start fresh. She thought about adoption. But, there would
always be doubt in the years to come. A quick and simple solution was at hand.
She could offer her child to God and help many people. There would be no
worry about another tragic life in this evil world. Her son held her hand tightly
as they walked quickly down the hall.
Those eyes looked up at her with confusion. The priest had contempt.
She had never belonged. No one could accept her or want her. She would not
let them break her son's spirit. He will escape the corruptions of this world.
And like the blessed Lamb of God his body will feed many. It was God's will.
Molly raced to her car. Police sirens wirled behind her Honda Civic.
A shadow of fear entered her mind. Her heart was pounding.
She could hear an errie horn. Was it Gabriel? A freight train struck her car.
Molly reached out for her son and all was blackness. Now, her bones were
his bones and her flesh was his flesh. They would be together forever.
Father Beiting stood and stared in dispair, "The Devil is the ruler of this world."
The priest handed her note over to the police, "Dear God. I want to follow you,
but sometimes I find myself distracted by the things this world offers. Please
help me to focus on You.+"

"And the works of God are perfect and just. Deuteronomy 24:32"
detective Bernard muttered. The detective refolded Molly's note and placed
it in a zip lock bag.
