Thomas, the funny one, left me, without irony, for a tragedienne
Harrison Alexander Applewhite III dumped me for Betsy Sue Ann Smith, cowgirl
Isaac like Narcissus tumbled into love with his reflection,
Sara was her name, whose beauty was outweighed only by her idiocy.

Brian I knew from the beginning was a lost cause
Rude and overbearing, but such a fantastic fuck that I forgot:
Once my legs were closed we had nothing to talk about.  I left him
Knees knocking, heart aflutter, for Kenneth.  I really thought he was “the one”
Every time he spoke, his voice electric, I melted; his skilled fingers playing
Not only the piano but also with my body.

He turned to me one day and said, “It’s time to see other people,
Explore something different.  And well, we… your sister and I, bought tickets to Japan.
Always wanted to travel you know, and you’re kind of a homebody.”
Roiling with shock, disbelief – what a stupid reason to leave, how could she? –
This broken heart ambles on, ever hopeful, looking for love in all the wrong places.
