The unending search for reason.
Faith

Feeling the path
From signpost to landmark
Looking for signals
In gathering storms
Weather-worn hands
Shielding eyes from the lamp-glare
Searching the shadows
In a hope forlorn.

Hoping for meaning
Praying for guidance
Asking mentors
For shreds of the truth
Stumbling around
The riddles and nonsense
In a maze of deception
And falsified proof.

‘You must have faith’
The clarion watchwords
But faith in what
In who and why
I stare at the earth
Constant and stalwart
Lifting my gaze
I drink in the sky

I need more than words
And repetitive chanting
Pages of litany
Volumes of creed
If the season be right
For sowing and planting
I seek fertile ground
To entrust with my seed.
