A child describes her experience of secret "love" that should never be.
I remember the first time,
I was "squeezed" in bed.
My lucky "Winnie the Pooh" light on,
my prayers had been said.

I was always afraid of the dark,
that I might get hurt.
Mommy and my teacher taught us,
children should be alert.

Watch out for spiders,
some have poison and strong legs.
One sits at our table,
he looks good in his suit coat with labels.

Then that spider comes out,
with many legs, to spin his web.
Late, in black ink night,
in my white canopy bed.

Once I am caught,
he gently cradles me.
"Hush, this is our special secret.
It's okay, you will see."

"No one can tell,
it might make Mom cry.
She might even think,
there is more love between you and I."

He says the same thing,
"You are so sweet.
Daddy needs his candy.
We two are like honey and bees."

"You are growing up.
Someday a boy will want you too.
It's not the same,
as the bond I have with you."

"You're my girl,
who deserves the best.
I love you so, do you see?
All you need is here with me."

"Good night, Daddy"
