A poem about the hard memories of a love lost.
Songs make me feel like I may love you forever.
Just when I don’t have to think not to think-
A song reveals you like magic
A rabbit in a hat (TADA!)
And that soft place in my heart quiets,
Like a warm wind on a cold day.

Somewhere on the interstate-
Between this city and that one
I see your spirit in the smog-

It isn’t so easy to switch the memory-
A song stuck in my head

The rain falling like pebbles on the car…
Your kisses notes from a love song
Contagious as the melody.

And me, lost from reality,
To think songs have no end.

Won’t you play that one again?
So I can crawl back into my head
Catch your fingers in a reverie.
If only your memory-
Was a lullaby
I would now be fast asleep,
Instead of stuck in this loop.

Songs make me feel like I may love you forever.
And it wouldn’t be so bad
If you sang it-
If it came from your mouth,
Instead of the dashboard.
