The changing speeds of time during a lifetime.
Sands of Time

When I was younger
I wished the sands of time
Would halt, or at least slow down.
I wanted to stay young and pure,
Untainted by the scars of love.

When I got a little bit older,
I wished the sands of time
Would get a move on, hurry up
I wanted to grow up, find the wings
Of love and fly away on them.

When my heart grew older and was broken,
I wished the sands of time
Would stop to let me wallow
In the pit of despair I dug myself;
I wanted to be caught in my pain forever.

When my soul grew older and I met you
I wished the sands of time
Would surrender so I could spend more
Time being happy with you.
Or hasten so I could feel all
The new joys that time would bring us.
