"Only when we die, will we know the truth."
As the clock ticks soundly
I lay awake in my bed
When a thought paraded around in my head
"Could I be Dead?"

When I awoke the next morning
I asked my mother, "Could I be dead?"
"Dead!" She said.
"It's all in your head."

When I went to work later that day,
I asked my boss, "Could I be Dead?"
"Dead!" He said.
"It's all in your head".

At dinner that night,
I asked my father, after we had been fed -
"Could I be dead?"
"Dead!" He said.

"I never thought about that,"
"But if you are dead, then so is the cat."
"And me and your mother - sister and brother."

"Maybe the living are asleep"
"and the dead have awaken"
"But worry not Child"
"Your life has not yet been Taken."

"Only when we die"
"Will we know the truth."
"But while we are 'Living' "
"Don't be uncooth."

As the clock tick's soundly,
I lay awake in my bed.
When a thought paraded around in my head.
"Am I already dead?"
