The Picture
The picture was old. A gift for my dad.
I was a twirler for the band in my school.
My uniform was purple with white on the side.
It was snug, and so comfortable to me.
I loved the small tassels that swung as I marched.
My medals and patches adorned my coat.
The baton I held, was a symbol of my pride.
I had practiced for hours as I dreamed of this day.
This was the time I was at my best.
I loved music and dancing. Both were found in my heart.

Football season was long and I marched every game.
The last Friday was homecoming and the stadium was packed.
The team was determined to win for the school.
And band had a big program to dazzle the spectators.
The cold night’s air was no problem for me.
My heart beat much faster for this was my last dance.
As we came off the field the football team was cheering for us.
Some of the players patted my back as I marched off the field.

I lead the school band.
I achieved secret goals.
I had worked hard and was someone to see.
