A short, different piece inspired by browsing through the contest's section
"Sh!"
"But I need to-"
"Shhhhh!"
"Mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm"
"Ouch! What did you do that for!"
"You put your hand over my mouth!"
"You didn't have to bite it!"
"How else was I supposed to talk?"
"You weren't supposed to!"
"Is your finger okay?"
"No. Look at it."
"That doesn't look so good"
"I know."
"I didn't mean to make it bleed."
"I know. But you need to stop squeaking because someone is going to hear us!"
"I can't help it, I'm just really excited. I have never done this before!"
"Such a novice."
"Are you going to be able to go on? Is your finger okay?"
"I'm sure I will live. Right, pass the torch."
"That's what I was looking for before you shoved your hand in my mouth."
"Stop whining and pass me it!"
"Okay, I hope there are batteries in it...."
"What do you mean you hope? The one thing I ask you to do. You knew we were going to be doing this tonight! What have you been doing all day?"
"I was -"
"You know what, I don't want an answer to that."
"Then why did you ask?"
"Look, just take batteries out of something else if there isn't any."
"I can't remember how to turn it on...."
"I can't believe this. I wonder sometimes I really do."
"...I can't remember if this is the twisty or clicky one."
"We have a clicky one?"
“Uh-huh. It's silver.”
“Neat.”
“Yeah.”
"Argh!"
"Ahh it's the twisty one!"
"Never mind stop shining it on my face!"
"Sorry!"
"Now, pass me the book.....right. So this is where we need to start."
"Ooh, what does it say?"
"Are you shaking?"
"Uh-huh!"
"...o]Okay then. Right. This was the last description we got from him, do you remember?"
"Yes."
"Okay, this is the next one. Pay attention."
"All ears."
"Right......yada yada yada....."
What does it say?"
"Sh! I'm concentrating."
"What does the fist bit say?"
"That's not important.....A-ha! Right. This is where it gets interesting. 'I was backpacking across the mountains with Wendy when we were separated by a snow storm and got lost at the base of the second mountain…’"
"Oh no! We have to find him!"
"That was the whole point. The last part of the message says 'Can you find us?'"
"We should start at the bottom of the mountain where he said they were seperated."
"Good idea! We need to find the mountain first"
"Yeah. Oh let me find it! I'm really good at-"
"Sh!"
"What's wrong-"
"Shhhhh! Do you hear that?"
"No I don't hear - Oh!"
"You heard it?"
"Uh-huh"
"Stay quiet. It might not of heard us"
"Oh I hope it didn't."
"We might have to abort the mission."
"No!"
"It's coming closer!"
"Oh no, oh no, oh no!"
"Don't panic!"
"I can't help it!"
"It's getting louder!"
"It heard us, I'm sure it did!"
"It's at the door!"
"You're hurting my hand!"
"Sorry!"
"Turn the torch off!"
"I'm trying."
"Try harder!"
"Stupid clicky torch...."
"I thought it was a twisty?"
"MALCOLM! PETER!"
"Oh no...."
"Put that book down and go to your beds!"
"But Mum!"
"Don't but Mum me Malcolm! You both have school tomorrow! Give me that torch!"
"But I-"
"No buts‘! Peter get back into your own bed."
"Okay Mum."
"Now, no more reading after lights out! Do you both understand?"
"Yes Mum."
"Goodnight"
".......Is she gone?"
"I think so."
"We will have to find Wally another night."
"Malcolm?"
"What?"
"I still have the clicky torch."
