the feeling of a loved one walking out of your life.
I remember everything.

I remember taking it slow,

Gettting to know you.

I remember the falling leaves

And the failing sun.

I remember standing still

Under the full moon

And broken sky

With our hearts heavy

And defenses at ease.

Our conversations would only circle

To keep from ending.

I remember the brightest smile

In the darkest of nights

I remember the snow falling

And braving the cold

If only to hear

Good night once more

I remember red rose petals

Blowing in the wind

And how I would follow

Trying to collect them

Just as I have

Gathered memories of you

And stored them in some safe place

Never to be touched by dust

Or corrupted in any way.

I remember the sadness

That walked in as you walked out

The echo of your exiting steps

And the silence that ensued

I remember our connection

The image of our silhouettes embracing

One last time

I remember holding you close

And letting you go.

I remember you

And everything that followed.
