Realizing who you see in the mirror
I look in the mirror
And who do I see?
Whose face is it
That stares back at me?

Sometimes that face
Shows where I’ve been
The pain and the hurt
Of nights spent in sin

Hurting and broken
I look in her eyes
And feel again
The pain of those lies

The lighting shifts,
A new face appears
One not darkened
By past dreams and fears

This is a face
That shows who I’ll be
That person, one day,
That I can call me

My fingers linger
Over the lines in her face
Eye to eye
A touch less embrace

A beauty is there
Its shadow I see
The beauty that merges
Past and present as ‘we’

But leaves the future
A book left untold
Leaves me reaching
For something to hold.
