A piece for Kansas Poet, using one of his final contest prompts.
A Light Down the Center Aisle

I sat staring with sadness at the opening of your port
I remembered with a smile the times we had met
My eyes filled with tears as I looked upon the image I'd created for you
My heart can't help but ache for your life cut so short.

I venture to my church to offer up a prayer
I remember with warmth that rivals the first sip of Courvoisier
The feeling of reading your hallowed works

You were as a man so humble
Totally unaware of your own splendor
You followed the light down the center aisle
Completely positive that it emanated from somewhere out there

Those of us who knew you are saddened by your passing
Those who discover your work now shall truly be blessed
By your simple honest words and thoughts
They shall know the truth that so sweetly evaded you

The light down the center aisle is the glow from your
Beautiful poetic soul
You are gone but your words and your light shall soldier on.

God Bless You, Kansas Poet...we are truly better for your having been here with us!
