First trip out with my partner ,It rained all day until we stopped to walk on the bridge.
The bridge

My young eyes ,
long years ago
witnessed the concrete construction
Imperceptibly climbing higher and the
drawbridge dominate the sky.
Then lashed together,
With metal belts,
straps and tarmac:
I saw the bridge materialise.

This political bargaining chip
isolated ,stepping stone
that transport systems forgot.
Lies unspoilt but not forgotten
for cars and lorries to cross.
Not just for wheels :
for to sample the majesty
of suspension structures:
Forsake the car and foot forward cross

Preferably not solo.
perhaps finally no longer alone.
Maybe with her hand to softly hold.
Make that moment of crossing
unforgettable .
I’d suggest during a sun lit weather window
between rainy bank holiday days…
then I’m sure that you will know
the bridge and that time across the humber
will stay in my mind for always.
