Every one got a present but Daddy!

CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FOR DADDY

Brightly lit streets and crowded Colombo shops

decorations everywhere and the theme cries ‘Christmas’

one late evening we are doing our hurried shopping

to buy presents, greeting cards, balloons and ribbons

Denim jackets and trousers for the elder son Malik

Culottes for the daughter who is only fourteen

Blue sari and a blouse for mama at this Christmas

‘decorations for the Christmas tree’ at the end of the list.

Colored paper and strings to wrap the presents tight

food stuff, drink bottles and fruits to fill the fridge

Do not forget the Christmas cakes- says Marlon with a smile

Oh, we bought everything but I forgot only one!

What is it mama, have we forgotten something big?

asks everyone together not letting me to breathe

Yes of course, we forgot your daddy’s presents dear

What shall we present him with this Christmas asked little Priya.

What about a suit, a necktie or a watch?

a bottle of jin or brandy or a scotch?

but I do not think honey he likes them much

so why do not we call him and ask him ‘what?’

I am now too old to have presents dear

why don’t you hurry up and come soon here?

watching you wrapping up presents on  this eve

lift my spirits up! that was daddy’s reply.
