Christmas in Colombo, a Buddhist town after the war ended
CHRISTMAS IN COLOMBO

Here in Colombo we have a great Christmas

Apples, orange, komadu and banana fill up the vendor’s stalls

Pettah is full of holiday shoppers hurrying to buy late night presents

Parents have a busy time with kids asking about Santa dear

Yes, I will buy this shirt or I‘ll buy that trouser- you can hear.

Christmas hampers at rock bottom prices- announces a board too

Have a glass of ‘Osu Pan’- a vendor shouts back

Radios in every shop singing Christmas carols

It will be a white Christmas since the war is over

Shepherds, cherubs, baby Jesus with parents in a crib

The shops sell Christmas cards, decorations too

Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists altogether join in singing carols

A merry Christmas to everyone- a huge banner says

Something tells me this will be the best Christmas.
