A reaction to watching Anne Waldman's Poetry performance
“Anne” Experience
(A reaction to watching Anne Waldman)

The aging sage speaks in song
Hands fly –frantic to speak
What she can’t get out fast enough
She speaks of Manatee
All the while exuding humanity
Bringing social conscious to newly opened eyes

Her presence at the podium captures all eyes
The people are captivated by her song
Reminding us all of our humanity
People listening – she continues to speak
Reminding us not to forget the Manatee
She says finally enough is enough

It’s time to act – we can’t move fast enough
It’s time to pull the blinds off of our eyes
Before we lose the last of the Manatee
Never again to hear the song
One more voice that will never speak
One more loss of our humanity

How long before we lose all humanity
When do we say enough is enough?
How many more voices will never speak?
When will we finally open our eyes?
When will we write our song?
When will we save our own manatee?

It takes courage to save a manatee
Without sacrificing our humanity
Remember the sage and her song
There is no such thing as good enough
Once the sun hits the eyes
Giving the soul a chance to speak

It’s not too late to rise up and speak
To take on our own Manatee
To see our world through new eyes
To fully embrace our humanity
To prove that action is enough
To add on to the sage’s song

To show the world the power of song
That action and voice are enough
To save what’s left of hu-manatee.
