Poem 1 in a series of 3
Think no more,
Said my tired body,
Just sleep the day away,

The temptation had all but won,
To lay down,
And sleep till the day,
And the night,
And the next day too,
Had passed into the archipelago
Of times gone,

My tired mind replied quickly,
No,
For that would be too easy a fate,
To go to the falseness of a dream,
Do not sleep!

But the dream is best,
The body argued,
For the is no pain,
How can you not know this truth?

Mind then sighed with regret,
Without pain,
How will we grow?
Heart, mind, and even soul?
Without pain,
There is no pleasure or progress,
How then,
Body,
Will you move on, sleeping till the day is done?

My body understood,
The unfolding reason,
That mind stated clear,
And knew what must be done in turn,

The pain must be weathered,
In whatever measure,
To gain the things,
That were true treasure.
