poem about losing ones soul
I lie all alone
forceful silence engulfing me.
I’m watching, waiting,
barley breathing.

Tears mark a path
etched with heartache and pain
descending into the hollowness
that once was my soul.

The silence is deafening
shouting volumes I’d rather not heed
they echo in the emptiness
where my essence use to be.

Wailing splinters the silence
in the void that binds me
crying out in anguish
against the atrocity.

You resolved to destroy who I once was.
Choking my spirit, stealing my courage,
wringing my soul from the inside out
so all that remains is nothingness.

Alone, isolated, empty,
I lock myself behind an iron door
and know . . . .

I’ll never show the pieces of myself
you told me are ugly.
