Adapted from a "ditty" by my Grandma Aggie about an unforgettable slip of the tongue.
Mortifying Mistake

Couldn't remember the answer
to the problem 6 times 9,
So, "54" became the name
of a favorite dolly of mine.
Together we would play and
        practice all day long.
There would be no way that
        I could get it wrong.
It wasn't long before our teacher
        put us to task.
I really could not wait for
        her to finally ask.
The words didn't even make
      it out of her mouth,
Before Dorothy Wigglesworth
      stood up and shouted out.
"That's easy, the answer to
      6 times 9 is 52."
I nearly laughed out loud,
but I knew just what to do.
I raised my hand up high and
      stood up proud and tall.
Smiled real wide and thought of
      my favorite little doll.
"So, the answer to 6 times 9,
      tell me if you can."
I nearly died that day because
      I answered, "Mary-Ann."!
