A poem regarding the meaninglessness and detrimental nature of small talk.
do tell me

crack

about the recent movement in precipitous clouds over your
expensive
expansive
estate
and how wet you might have gotten.

do tell me

crack

about your favorite team of athletic individuals
that chased a synthetic orb
much more efficiently than your neighbor's favorite team of athletic individuals
and how this makes you so happy.

do tell me

crack

about that one guy
oh
what was his name
the organ player from that church
your mom's cousin used to go to
got engaged to the aunt of that one gal
oh
what was her name
and how they're going to have a beautiful wedding
and how wonderful everything is.

do tell me

crack

ok.

this isn't working.

you can't expect me to take a toy bicycle
into the Tour de France
you can't expect me continue this
with just a cracking
meaningless
vehicle.

this little plastic frame

crack

just isn't up to the task.

small talk is all well and good
but these tiny cracking wheels
won't hold us for much longer.

I want a real bike.
