A humorous poem about my grandson, trying to make us see the light.
Fannie and Leon...Or...A Toddler's Applause
by Cheryl Campbell

We were sitting at the table
eating lunch one day,
when my grandson had us quite confused
with something he would say.

“Fannie…and Leo-o-o-n!!!!”
He kept saying as he jumped
high off the chair onto the floor,
he really had us stumped.

He was only two years old,
and his speech was not quite clear.
But he knew what he was saying
and he wanted us to hear.

We asked him to repeat it
several times throughout the day.
So he happily continued
to try and make us see the way.

He said it as he smiled,
with his head cocked to the side
as if to say, “Come on you guys,
you’d get it if you tried!”

We almost didn’t get it
but alas, we saw the light.
His mother and his grandpa
screamed out with great delight:

“We know! We know what he’s trying to say
when yelling ‘Fannie and Leon’.
He’s been watching Buzz and Woody -
it’s ‘INFINITY AND BEYOND‘!!!”

A squeal of delight escaped his lips
and he let out a few Hurrah‘s!
He nodded his head with approval
and gave us a toddler’s applause.
