Perilous and beautiful.

The night holds me in its arms
Sobbing, I find no comfort there
No matter how warm the weather
The night is always cold
Always tightening around me
Whispering sweet words of affliction into my defenseless ears

The night is a gentle beast
Creeping in slowly after the sun
Awaiting daylight's departure
Before instilling thoughts of regret
Into the unarmed souls of the world

The night is a beautiful woman
With robes of indigo
Under her robes, the body of nightmares
Well concealed and brooding beneath a velvet surface
She smothers me with my faults of the past

The night is forgiving
If I stay active in the shadows
Not allowing my mind to wander
Remaining aloof in the moment
Invisible in the dark and away from the light

Daylight comes like clockwork
All secrets deprecate with the fading of night
I rise with a calmer disposition
Prepared to leave regret in the past
Until night returns
To seize me yet again
