Advice from a parent to child.
In my arms I snuggled you,
In my arms I breastfed you,
In my arms I cuddled you,
In my arms I thanked the Lord,
For a blessing has been born.

I gave you guidance on your path,
I gave you love that would last,
I gave you my time, all that I had,
I gave you smiles when you were sad,
For a joy you had become, my child.

I released you to have freedom,
I released you to follow your dreams,
I released you to continue your education,
I released you to seek your love,
For a parent I was proud, my young adult.

Now you blame me for your freedom,
Now you blame me for your failures,
Now you blame me for your sadness,
Now you blame me for your life,
For it’s your fight and struggle to be.

Follow your dreams, but you must strive,
Follow your heart, but you must love,
Follow your wishes, but you must accept,
Follow your path, but you must choose,
Responsibility is in your arms, my child.

Blame not, it will only control you,
Blame not, it will only destroy you,
Blame not, it will only breed hate,
Blame not, it will only build walls,
That will keep you from your blessings.

Remember the strength I gave and strive,
Remember the hope I gave and dream,
Remember the lessons taught and learn,
Remember the love I gave and share,
The open door of living is a blessing!
