Part of a series of 5 poems, three of which that will be written in the next three weeks.
The red rose stands alone
in his chest as Winter's wind
freezes the hairs under his chin.
Its brilliant red petals blend perfectly
together with its green stem.

Cold snow whipped by wind
blinds his eyes as he stares
into the distance, but his sight
views inward.

Her face is all he sees, and the
memory of her warm skin protects
the rose from the icy wind's attempt
to wither a single petal.

His heart's rich dirt firmly holds the
stem, and feeding off the rose's strength,
a single leaf peeks from the soil, and
with each beat the new leaf grows.

The red rose, still defiant in its beauty,
giving meaning to each beat, now stands
beside a white rose, a true symbol of love.

Grown from his heart, and fed from
memories of her sweet smile and soft skin.
With every passing beat love's rose grows
stronger.
