Alcohol and the one night stands.
Wind

Waking up in a strange bed, beside a person I did not know
Wind blowing thoughts in my aching head
Wafting towards me, invading my nostrils
Smells of last night
Stale beer, a hint of wine
Cheap perfume, spent desire
Where the hell was I
What was I doing here
More importantly
Who had I become
Oh to be free again

Flight was the answer
Careening down the stairs, feet of clay, dropping off
Wheels turning, a full head of steam, transforming
Embracing a washed out blue sky
Soaring to the heavens, see the earth as a speck
Leave the stench of my misspent life behind
To be a bird, moved lightly with an eternal swish
A silent partner lifting me away from it all
Streams in the air pushing me toward far distant vistas
Leave the ugly shore behind

Pockets of Payne's grey ocean lay below me
What do I care
White pillows rhythmically danced along the surface
Of no consequence to me
Heavenward soaring, fearless, in long lazy spirals
Catching the currant
Higher, ever higher
Onward lifting
Upward climbing
Cleansed by a holy wind
Breaking the mist
I kissed the sun
Free at last
