I still see her from time to time. she doesnt live close, but we share the same friends.
It only takes one word
One thought of you
And I am off and running
Far, far away from you

Too fondly do I recall
The honeyed lilt your full lips give to your words
Caressing them as they give swift pursuit
To the heart of my matters

Hunted by your eyes, no peace is found
Respite forsaken for another gamble at your table
Tossing heart-shaped dice against coarse felt
Hoping they don’t shatter when coming to grip with bare reality

Teeth exposed in caramel grin
Tempting me with your meaningless sweetness
While hiding the razor-edge canines and incisors
That clipped my wings and left me under grounded

The sashay of your hips
And rub of your thighs
Play a melancholy violin solo
That cuts through the gloom, only to replace it with another brand of misery

Trying to recapture something that isn’t worth the effort
But still demands its emotional bounty
Seeking to renegotiate contractual stipulations
Zealously demanding more interest

Pernicious intentions all aside
Your indifference remands me to slavery
Modern-day Middle Passage
From friend, to lover, to nothing more than a stark acquaintance

Gallantry strewn about the room and gone out the window
In the face of such a siren as you, fleeing is the only option
But the question yet remains
Why do I keep coming back
