Who is our mystery man? I certainly didn't write this.... an alter-ego, perhaps?
Won't you dream of me, my darling
While you keep me up at night?
The cold rushes in from the window,
But my eyes are glazed and shut.
It is true that whispered words
Can sate a starving man.

If Eve was guilty for the Fall of Man,
I'll eat my own casket, Darling
The bible is but human words;
We can find more truth in the night.
If Pandora's box was kept shut
Our souls would have no window.

Peering through my dripping window,
Is a dreaming, heart-sore man.
He speaks through a mouth that is shut,
But nothing replaces you, my darling.
If not for love and purity there would be no night.
Everything there is was made by words.

Were you here we'd share some words,
As the streetlamps shine through my window,
Keeping a glowing, misty vigil all night.
How lonesome is this man?
I'd do anything for you, Darling,
Were my hands not tied, my mouth shut.

I've lost the key and the door is shut,
The walls are awash with words.
I'd never trade you for another, Darling,
Though many pass my window.
I'm not that kind of man,
Despite my rapport with the night.

I've lain awake throughout the night,
In search of peace, my eyes shut.
Why would God create Man
If we only distress with our words?
If he were to look through my soul's window,
He'd find too much devoted to you, Darling.

I'd never believe I'd be a man of the night,
Please, darling, don't reject me if my heart is shut.
If only your sweet words could pierce my window!
