WC entry on Carol Burnett's "Words, once they are printed, have a life of their own."
I look at the paper in my hand, the black ink sits there.
A bunch of shapes and lines, trying to make sense.
The harder it is for me to read, the louder they become.
The L jumps off the page, slaps me in the face.
He says "Look woman, can't you see?
We're trying to tell you something! To Live and be Free!"
I dropped the paper, and the white sheet shattered
as if it were glass, the black letters scatter about.
Yelling and screaming, "Give us a chance!
We'll teach your eyes to dance"
Their rhyming and their rhythm, put my mind in a trance.
I am now discovering the world they have created.
L and F grow bigger and bigger, they grab my hands and we all shrink.
We all collect the paper, and put it back together.
We lay down onto the sheet, and slowly flatten out.
L and F are laughing, we don't just stand still.
Although to the human, we are just shapes and lines.
I see the colors, stories and ideas that lie behind the words.
Words, that's what these letters make, words that tell a story.
A story that sparks an idea.
The idea that L and F wanted me, to Live and be Free.
