About a teenager who hitchhikes and takes her final ride
Several miles away from home
and determined not to stay.
A young girl holds her thumb out
in hopes of getting away.

Her problems seemed enormous
and too hard for her to take.
She doesn’t realize what she’s done
or the outcome of her mistake.

She’s much too young to understand
what her consequences bring.
For her problems are still with her
she never left anything.

Headed nowhere but for trouble
she believes that she is right.
Strangers no longer scare her
and she’s fearless of the night.

Hitchhiking just wasn’t the answer
it brought grief beyond repair.
Her last ride was with a stranger
who simply didn’t care.

Her ride to freedom it was not
it was her first and final ride.
For she did not survive this
she left without a goodbye.
