The sages of the ages, Socrates, Plato and Aristotle,
Did long ago wax eloquent, disdaining foolish twaddle.
Great wisdom did they breathe, now quietly evanescent,
Lessons now ignored by those in the present.

A Clerihew is a comic verse consisting of two couplets and a specific rhyming scheme of aabb. In most cases, the first line names a person, and the second line ends with something that rhymes with the name of the person.
