A man awaits his fate;
The reckoning

Can you see it in our eyes?
The distant void, which once had hoped,
No longer would you recognise,
The sparkle there had long eloped.

Reflections smothered by remorse,
Revenge a dish served cold,
We would change the past of course!
Live earnest and get old.

But life’s for living once
And sin retains no friend,
And when our heart confronts
our crimes….. It is a fitting end.

So shame our only suitor,
Fades into the abyss,
Conscience the persecutor
Regret the poisoned kiss.

For now my fate it beckons
Tread softly onto death,
The scales of life, it reckons
I will take my final breath.
