Family's seasonal influence described in a Villanelle
At birth, this blooded oath we swear
A seasoned promise to be kept
From ancestor to future heir.

Spring blossoms forth beyond the bare
And lifeless season that we slept
At birth, this blooded oath we swear.

Midsummer sun reveals the snare
Into united beds we leapt
From ancestor to future heir.

Life's autumn days are sent to share
The harvest duties we accept
At birth, this blooded oath we swear.

'neath winter covers we prepare
To join with those for whom we wept
From ancestor to future heir.

This gift of family bids we dare
When first into this life we've stepped
At birth, this blooded oath we swear
From ancestor to future heir.
