Poem about Nickerson Park Campground and Hurricane Irene
For hours and hours they ride the highways
Just so they can get away for a few days
To a place on a map that can’t be found
All the way to Nickerson Park Camp ground

They all drive miles and miles
Just to relax and see their kids smiles
To stay for a month or a few weekends
Laughs and fun here never ends

Down by the river lying in the sun
Swim all day until the day is done
Then the horseshoe throws begin
Till the end of the day to see who’ll win

Fun in the mountains is always great
Talking by the campfire until very late
Family, friends, people all around
Can anyone beat this campground?

Then one day the river began to swell
Everyone knew it wouldn’t end so well
We sat and watched as things swam away
To be found down river on another day

Trailers thrown, landscape changed
The entire campground has been rearranged
We’ll rebuild, we’ll recover
We’re lucky to all still have one another

There will be a day sometime soon
We’ll sit in that traffic again past noon
To the best place that can be found
All the way to Nickerson Park Campground
