It's about how people feel the need to be polite all the time - even if that means lying.
I'm fine thanks and you?

Even from birth we are schooled in the truth
But the most flagrant lies is drilled in from youth
How are you doing? I'm fine thanks and you?
This oft repeated greeting is clearly untrue.

Perhaps truth is revealed in our tone of voice
This natural barometer proclaims, without choice,
Our hopes, dreams, heartache and fears
That more often than not, falls on deaf ears.

To continue singing etiquette's tune
We round off "how are you doing" with "see you soon"
I can't fathom how we say this and smile when
Roughly translated it means "never again."

It's polite to ask but rude to share
Why then ask when you don't really care?
Forgive me as I offer this most uncouth of views
Isn't it more polite not to mind our Ps and Qs?
