A poem I wrote before I had to leave Ohio.
It's gray today, like it always is
in this part of town
where rain and tears and gasoline
shine like lights on the ground
in this place I've come to know
this place I hate but I still call home
and even though soon I'll have to go
I'll leave a piece of my heart in Ohio
where the sun never shines an the wind always blows
where the air is smoggy and the sky is too low
the summer's too hot and the winter's too cold
the spring is too wet and all autumn means
is brown leaves dangling dead on the trees
and the air standing way too still
sometimes it feels like being in hell.
But I will miss those city lights
and the smell of that old architecture
those stormy, thunder and lightning nights
it's not one feeling, but a mixture
of wanting to stay but needing to go
get out of this place I now call home
eleven years is too long for it to not have a hold
so I'll leave a piece of my heart in Ohio.
