thoughts on time, how one uses it

I see it in you,
the wastes of uncertainty.
Seconds, minutes even hours
sipping away
like water gliding unstopped towards the drain
like green caterpillars inching away from thick leaves
unused and untouched
thoughtless vanity.
maddening inconsistency that one so preoccupied
with everything else in the world -
all of the opinions and scores,
the statistics and measures
all of the hierarchies and politics,
That one so shrewd and calculating
should be so careless with the one thing you cannot get back

You waste time like a rich man wastes money
His excess brings me disgust,
but yours brings me grief.

Do not be so hard on my heart
