A public Domain book from ancient China about controlling armies and waging warfare.
The Art of War by Sunzi

If you are going to start learning about the way people wage war this is a good place to start.

The beginning of the book explains the many translations that have been a part of bringing to pass this version of the book.

Some of the war material is compared to modern day war manuals written by USA leaders, one of which is Roosevelt.

Subjects of interest within the content:

1.  The five cardinal virtues of the Chinese.
2.  Explanations of how to keep an army serving its commanders. And, what types of commanders an army will serve.
3.  The book revolves around ancient activities in armies so you find things about chariots, horses, plunder, and severe persuasion.
4.  Nine types of terrain are mentioned in different parts of the book.  Which bring about a modern emphasis in warfare.
5.  How to attack by fire has a whole chapter for itself.

My favorite quote:  "If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the result of one hundred battles."
