Prompt: Feelings of an elderly person who is no longer able to do for self.
A single leaf falls
from a tall, sturdy oak tree.
Then the avalanche.

My strength is failing,
vitality has fallen.
Each day weakness grows.

Watching children play
out the passenger's window.
My eyes have grown dim.

Grateful for the help,
embarrassed it is needed.
What am I to do?

No longer myself,
shadow of independence,
fading into death.
